I am Ellie, and this is Gus the Westie (my partner Bobby doesn’t like photos but I will get him on here one day ;))
We grow flowers on a 2-acre old horse paddock, that was completely empty when we arrived in March 2023! The flower field is just up the road from my home workshop on the edge of Pakefield and Gisleham.
My love of flowers probably came from my mum who has been a florist for many years. We started making wreaths together at Christmas and then it got busier and busier as the years went on. We still work together sometimes ;)
I think the start of my passion for growing flowers, probably started when Bobby bought me my first David Austin rose for my birthday a few years ago - it is called Vanessa Bell and is still one of my favourites.
In the years that followed, I began buying seeds and plants, and grew flowers on my allotment and in our garden. My confidence grew when I started to use my homegrown flowers in sympathy work and gift bouquets. In the 2023 season I sold single variety bunches of sweet peas and small mixed bunches in a local fruit and veg shop, and had amazing feedback.
I also found I really love scented flowers - a lot of imported roses have NO scent! I really want to focus on adding scented flowers to my field as I think it is a wonderful addition to the beauty of a bouquet, for example, Stocks, Roses, Sweet Peas, Mint, Oregano, Lavender.
The business is definitely still young, but my aim is to make my flowers accessible to everyone who wants them! Whether that is me creating your wedding flowers, Mothers Day bouquets, quick ‘grab and go’ bunches or if you are getting married and you would like your own florist to use my flowers in your bouquet.
